Monotypes

I create monotypes to focus on the simple shapes and colours of the landscape. I start the monotype process
by applying a layer of gum arabic to a non absorbent surface such as a plexi or mylar.

I begin the process by rolling or brushing on the paint and then either draw or remove some of the paint to create the desired effect.

After I dampen the paper, I use a wooden spoon or rolling pin to apply pressure to the back of the plexi. I then hold by breath as I remove the plexi hoping I have applied the pressure evenly to all the areas.

Monotypes have a distinctive and  unique look. Although "printed" monotypes are originals and there are no copies.
